John L. Whisler, Jr., PE, Assoc. AIA, is vice president and chief operating officer of Omaha-based Leo A. Daly Company, the nation's fourth largest architectural engineering firm. The firm has 850 design and engineering professionals worldwide, located in 10 U.S. and two offshore offices.
A registered professional engineer since 1984, John holds an MS in Civil Engineering (Structures) and a BS in Civil Engineering, both from Georgia Institute of Technology. He also holds a BS from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he later served as assistant professor in the Department of Mechanics.
After serving as the Battalion Operations Officer for the 44th Engineer Battalion in South Korea, John joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers serving as the deputy district engineer in the Corps' Omaha District and subsequently for the Far East District (Korea). He went on to become deputy division engineer for the Missouri River Division. Most recently, he was commander and district engineer for the Nashville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, responsible for completing civil projects for local, state and federal clients in seven states with a construction value of $140 million annually.
He has earned numerous military awards and decorations, including The Airborne Badge, The Air Assault Badge, The Legion of Merit, The Meritorious Service Medal and The Army Commendation Medal.
He is married to the former Marylou Blomberg, and they have three children: Rebecca, Larkin, and Bryan.
