Architectural Engineering as a Career:

Architectural Engineers design the internal structures, ventilation and environmental systems, acoustical, lighting, electrical, and plumbing systems of building structures.

Architectural Engineering is a new program in the University of Nebraska System, but it is currently taught at fourteen other universities. The small number of universities with this program creates a high demand for graduates.

Employment prospects for Architectural Engineers are excellent. Building construction is one of the largest industries in the nation, accounting for almost $600 billion per year, and employing seven million workers.

Graduates can expect to find employment with professional firms engaged in the process of building design. After several years of experience, these persons obtain professional registration and practice as Professional Engineers.

Do you, or would you...

  • Enjoy working with persons involved with building construction?
  • Like working with schematics for complicated systems?
  • Have a fascination with internal building structures?
  • Wonder how a building can be virtually self-supporting?
  • Want to be involved with complex internal systems of building construction?
  • Have a knack for working with wiring or plumbing?
  • Desire job security and the possibility of career advancement?
  • Enjoy working in one of the largest industries in the nation?
If so, Architectural Engineering may be for you!
